THE ETERNAL STYLE: Ancient Revival

Exhibition:

24th April 2026 - 15th May 2026

Gray Reid Gallery proudly presents The Eternal Style: Ancient Revival - a curated collection that brings together antique, vintage, and contemporary pieces united by a single, timeless impulse: to resurrect the past in gold, gemstone, and glass.

From the gilded courts of the Mughal empire to the sun-scorched temples of the Nile, humanity has never stopped looking backwards.

The ancient world has been summoned again and again across the centuries not once, but in wave after wave of revival, each generation rediscovering the same sources of wonder and remaking them in its own image. Gothic cathedrals inspired Victorian goldsmiths. Napoleon’s Egyptian campaigns sent a continent into hieroglyphic obsession. The Grand Tour made classical Rome wearable.

The Renaissance itself was already a revival -  an age that looked to antiquity for answers and found them in mythology, marble, and enamel. Even that Renaissance vision was later revived again, proof that the cycle has no end.

What this collection reveals is that revival is not imitation. Each era brings its own focus, fascinations, and craftsmanship to the same ancient forms. The styles gathered here span Mughal splendour, Egyptian romance, Greco-Roman classicism, Gothic drama, and Chinese refinement, alongside the intimate traditions of cameo, intaglio, and micro mosaic that have been reborn in virtually every period.

Together, these works ask a compelling question: can any style truly be called new?

The Eternal Style reveals jewellery not merely as adornment, but as an act of remembrance - proof that the ancient world never truly disappeared. It was simply waiting to be worn again.
