Artist Profile: Monica Szwaja

Featured artist of the month is award winning jewellery designer, Monica Szwaja.
Monica creates handmade and individually designed fine jewellery, using traditional gold and silversmithing techniques to create a contemporary aesthetic.

Monica masterfully incorporates the ancient Korean Keum-boo technique into her creations. This process involves the delicate bonding of 24ct gold to sterling silver, resulting in a rich, luminous finish that enhances the beauty of each piece.
Monica's philosophy is of ‘beauty within simplicity’. She finds great appeal in subtle shapes and forms with a focus on surface texture and colour.

Combinations of precious metals, precious and semi-precious and organic gems are all used with equal value and appreciation.

The award-winning gold and silversmith studied at Sir John Cass College, London and completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts at Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, graduating with honours.
An affinity with metal and the ancient craft of silversmithing led Monica to discover her creative ability. What started as a creative interest led to a jewellery practice in Melbourne and numerous exhibitions.
Monica has exhibited in Australia, Japan, and America.
Her attention to aesthetic quality has achieved success in winning several design awards.
Monica is a ‘Fellow of The Gold and Silversmiths Guild of Australia’; all her work bears her Maker’s Mark, the metal identification stamps, and the Guild stamp.
